You may have noticed the bookcases in the clubhouse, filled with books on many different topics, themes, issues—and mostly fiction. The Dunbarton Book Exchange was created so residents could exchange reading material, conveniently and economically, creating a community benefit for all. It was originally set up with the premise that you “donate a book, take a book.” And it has been very successful! So successful in fact, that now we need to manage the donations to keep the Book Exchange working effectively while continuing to provide recent and interesting books for you to read.
In order for the Book Exchange to work effectively, we request that you consider the following:
How to Borrow from the Dunbarton Book Exchange…
• Take one or two books to read and enjoy at home.
• After reading, return the borrowed books or pass along to a friend.
• When donating books or returning borrowed books, please place them in the orange crate provided. Dunbarton Book Exchange volunteers will shelve the books for you.
• The books are separated into Non-fiction (one bookcase) in no particular order and fiction (5 bookcases) organized by the author’s last name.
How to Donate Books to the Dunbarton Book Exchange…
• Donate recent, gently-used, interesting books.
• Donate books you have enjoyed lately and think others would too.
• Audio books on CD.
• Although some books may not be current fiction, readers love the old standards too. Many well-known authors, Erik Larson, Donna Leon, Louise Penny, Margaret Atwood, just to name a few, are still read and enjoyed by many.
Jigsaw Puzzles
• Jigsaw puzzles have recently been added to the Dunbarton Book Exchange. The same borrowing and donating guidelines apply.
• Please tape the puzzle boxes so puzzle pieces do not escape.
What NOT to Donate to the Dunbarton Book Exchange…
• Outdated travel books (more than two years old)
• Outdated financial tomes (more than a year old)
• Harlequin romance novels
• Books on tape (literally) or discs
• Old textbooks
• Magazines
How NOT to Use the Dunbarton Book Exchange…
The Book Exchange is not a repository for old, moldy, smelly, outdated books. Take those works to the Friends of the Library, TROSA or any worthy charity and receive a tax donation or dispose of them at the Dunbarton recycling/trash location. Do not expect the Dunbarton Book Exchange volunteers to do this for you.
The Book Exchange is designed for all Dunbarton residents to enjoy and to contribute to. Please follow these few simple guidelines to keep it an interesting resource for all.
